talk via two (if you want) intercom
hi.
i made a voice chat app that sends stereo audio. you can run it on your own server and give friends the link and a room password.
mostly for asmr and voice calls. it can send both channels from a binaural mic (depending on your browser and hardware).
what it does
- stereo audio, with microphone processing off by default.
- text chat and a volume control for each person.
- up to ten people in a room.
- people joining need a browser and the room password.
use headphones please (i fought several browsers for that second ear).
if you want to host it
you'll need docker compose, a hostname, and an https reverse proxy. a turn relay is included for connections that can't go directly between browsers.
there isn't an account system or a database to look after. you start the room, generate a shared password, and give it to the people you want there.
a few things to know
- restarting the server clears the room password. you'll need to generate a new one.
- text chat isn't end-to-end encrypted. the server can read it.
- audio can stop when you lock your phone. this depends on the browser, so try it before settling in for a long call.
